Why Medical Student Read Katzung Pharmacology

     Basic and Clinical Pharmacology written by Bertram G. Katzung, Susan B. Masters, and Anthony J. Trevor. This is the book that is mostly recommended in medical schools.

     Yes, katzung is the only book that is mostly recommended in South Asia, just bcoz of its power of explanation, and nothing else. As also there is a number of medical schools where mostly examination questions are made from. 

     Each and every drug is explained in it with its Mechanism of action, Therapeutic uses, Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics, and even its Adverse effects and toxicity is explained in a wonderful method. As the chapter ends, it also have a chart or table of drugs that were explained in it with all the main points that mostly help the students in recalling them and also helps students for BCQs (Best Choice Questions) or MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions).

Benefits Of Using  Katzung

     Every book has merits and demerits whosoever be the author of that. The benefits of this book are given below:

• Students can easily build the concepts from it coz of its Explanation power.
• Students can also learn somehow of pathology from it as it also gives an overview of the particular disease and then treatment.
• Student can have a wonderful grip for MCQs or BCQs if he or she thoroughly go through it.
• As normally still there are medical schools in South Asia where they are taught through the old Annual or Semester system, and they have a lot of time to go through the book according to their own.

Demerits Of Using Katzung

     The demerits of reading this book are given, these demerits are not on the information given in the book.

      Presently, almost every college has Integrated System where the students are taught according to the systemic way, and they have a limited time to go through the topics. So, if a student has a wonderful learning speed, he or she can win the race, but other pharma will be nice, but other subjects will be affected.

Suggestion as a Medical Student

     It's the only game of time management, if you are a champion in it, then you will also be the champion in the Medical field. I suggest you, not to go through all the stuff in katzung, but yes if the topic is important and you are not understanding it from other sources, I will suggest you to go through that topic from katzung. Hopefully, you will get what you want.

     Every book is important if that is suggested you by your teachers, and also if it is your textbook of Medical School. Just go through important topics first, and then if you have time, then go through the less important topics.
